Asian Carp
“Although the issue of Asian Carp affecting the Great Lakes ecosystem by entering Lake Michigan via the Sanitary and Ship Canal is a concern, the proof to date is inconclusive. I agree with Congresswoman Judy Biggert and the State of Illinois, the locks along the Canal must be kept open to protect much-needed area jobs and industries in Cook County that rely on this important waterway.”

CHIALDIKAS PLANS WATER CONSERVATION INCENTIVES FOR MWRD
Lemont’s Paul Chialdikas, who will be on the ballot in February as candidate for commissioner for MWRD (Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago), has announced some of his plans for conserving water and bringing service-oriented jobs back into the marketplace.
"I was watching a documentary with my kids", said Chialdikas, "when it struck me that every day in the USA we use 4.8 billion gallons of water to flush our toilets! In Cook County and the greater Chicago area alone, there are more than 1 million old 3-gallon toilet bowl tanks in use. If they were converted to 1.5-gallon tanks, we would save 50% of the water every time we flushed our toilet.
My plan, if elected to the MWRD board", continued Chialdikas, "would be to introduce a rebate incentive program for home and business owners to convert to newer technology, thereby not only conserving water but also reducing water and waste bills for all users. In addition, jobs would be created and retained in the plumbing, manufacturing and retail sectors due to the replacement program."

CHIALDIKAS MIXES PANCAKES WITH WATER FOR MWRD BOARD
Paul Chialdikas, owner of P.C.'s Pancake Café in Lemont, recently announced his candidacy for Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago (MWRD) in the upcoming elections in 2010. He feels he can use his entrepreneurial skills as a successful businessman to implement changes in the MWRD to make it a more proactive taxing body. The MWRD is responsible for the collection and treatment of waste from all of Cook County’s residences and businesses.
Recruitment is only one area that Chialdikas feels needs attention at MWRD - more initiatives should be created to protect our natural resources and implement more "green" services. The overall technology and communications systems of MWRD need to be updated not only to make the District more transparent to the tax payer and to create benchmarks to measure performance and accountability, but also to inform the public about what MWRD does and what can be done together to help our environment, particularly how we can all subscribe to programs to easily preserve, conserve and reuse rainwater.
A family man with 3 children, Paul believes that we must protect our natural resources for our children's future, and we can do this by introducing new, unbiased ideas which are fiscally responsible and environmentally friendly.
